Project designed by Emi Fukushima.

Materials:

one block of black Fimo Soft clay
1/4 block of Fimo Art translucent clay
two-inch sqaure of washi paper
three inches of lace
1-1/2 inch tassle
four to five beads
three-inch eye pin
36-inch rat tail cording
needle tool
round nose pliers
wet/dry sand paper - 400 grit, 600 grit
buffer
glue
pasta machine - optional
roller - acrylic
NuBlade Kato clay tool

Steps:

1. Condition Fimo Soft black clay by hand and either roll it with a rolling pin or put it through a pasta machine at least 20 times.

2. Flatten the clay using the thickest setting on a pasta machine. Cut the clay into two pieces and place them on top of one another. Cut the clay into a desired shape. Place a needle tool through the center of the two pieces of clay so that it pokes through both ends of the clay (figure A).

3. Leave the needle tool in the clay and press lace into the clay to texturize (figure B). Remove the needle.

3. Tear or cut a piece of washi paper (figure C) into a desired shape. Cover it with a thin layer of conditioned Fimo Art translucent clay. Bake it in an oven at 250-265 degrees for 20 minutes.

4. On both sides of the black clay, press the baked washi paper and translucent clay into the textured clay (figure D). Press a Chinese coin into the black clay on both sides.

5. Bake the entire piece at 265 degrees for 30 minutes.

6. After the piece has cooled, take the coin out and glue it back in.

7. Sand the baked piece under water with wet/dry sandpaper, first with 400 grit and then with 600 grit.

8. Buff with a buffer until shiny.

9. String the eye pin through the center hole and add beads and a tassle (figure E).

10. Make the eye with round nose pliers and put rat tail cording in the eye for the string of the necklace.
