Rice
Materials:
FimoSoft polymer clay
- one block of white - #0
- one block of translucent - #00
pasta maker or rolling pin
NuBlade Kato clay knife
ruler
Steps:
1. Condition the white clay and run it through the pasta maker at the thickest setting. Cut a piece about 3" x 5" (figure A).
2. Condition the translucent clay and make a roll about five inches long a approximately 3/4 inch to one inch in diameter.
3. Make a jelly roll with the white clay on the outside, wrapping the translucent clay in the center (figure B).
4. Reduce the width of the jelly roll by stretching it to approximately 16 inches long. Cut it into four, four-inch pieces (figure C).
5. Bunch the four pieces together and stretch them to about 12 inches long.
6. Cut the bunched pieces again into three or four equal pieces.
7. Stack and stretch as in step five. Continue this process until satisified with the size of the "rice" (figure D). Roll the clay to smooth the edges.
Tuna
Materials:
FimoSoft polymer clay
- 1/2 block of metallic red - #202
- 1/2 block of cherry red - #26
- 1/2 block of translucent - #00
- 1/2 block of black - #09
pasta maker or rolling pin
NuBlade Kato clay knife
ruler
1. Condition the clay and put each color separately through the pasta maker at the thickest setting.
2. Layer each color, alternating red, translucent, red, etc. (figure E).
3. Roll the clay with a rolling pin to flatten it. Cut it in half and stack the pieces.
4. Repeat step 3 until they clay stack about an inch thick.
5. Slice and shape the clay to resemble tuna for the top of the sushi rice.
6. Place the tuna cane between four rice canes and smooth the edges. Shape the edges of the grouped clay so that it forms a square shape. Wrap a sheet of black clay around the "sushi" (figure G). Cut slices of the cane to make the sushi charms for the necklace.
