This polymer clay bunny was designed and demonstrated by Becky Meverden.
Materials:
Premo! Sculpey polymer clay:
- two-ounce block of white #5001
- two-ounce block of cadmium red #5382
two black seed beads
blush
cotton swab
paintbrush
straight pin
round toothpick
paring knife
parchment paper or index card
baking dish or cookie sheet
oven thermometer
Steps:
1. To make the bunny's body, roll a 7/8-inch ball of white clay into a cone. Press the bottom against a flat surface. Insert a pin halfway into the top of the body (figure A).
2. For arms, roll two 7/16-inch balls of white clay into tapered logs. Flatten tapered end slightly and press onto both sides of body (figure B).
3. Roll two 7/16-inch balls of white clay and flatten into shape of feet. For pads, use end of paintbrush to make four holes in each foot. Color feet using blush and cotton swab. Press onto body below arms (figure C).
4. Roll a 11/16-inch ball of white clay for the bunny's head. Press two seed beads into head for eyes, and use a toothpick to make two squint lines at each eye.
5. For the bunny's snout, roll two 1/4-inch balls of white and flatten slightly. Press together slightly and press onto head centered below eyes.
6. To make pink Sculpey, mix a 1/2-inch ball of white clay with a 3/16-inch ball of red clay. Then, roll a 1/16-inch ball of pink clay for the bunny's nose and press it onto the center of his snout. Press the head onto the body (figure D).
7. Roll two 9/16-inch balls of white clay into tapered logs and flatten into bunny ear shapes. Roll two 9/32-inch balls of pink clay in tapered logs and flatten them so that they are slightly smaller than the ear and press them onto the ears. Curl the tapered ends of each ear (figure E).
8. For the bunny's tail, roll a 1/4-inch ball of white clay and press it onto the bunny's backside. Use a knife to give the tail a 'fluffy' texture (figure F).
9. Bake in a preheated 265-degree oven for 30 minutes. Turn the oven off and remove when cool.
