Craft designer Renee Sparks demonstrates how to create elegantly covered photo albums with paper and fabric.
Materials:
photo album
fabric, ribbons, lace or other material you wish to use to cover the album
scissors
fusible iron-on adhesive (available at fabric/sewing stores and some craft stores)
iron
poster paper
glue
Steps:
- Cut fabric to size to fit the album, with enough left over to fold inside the cover. Place fabric face-down on a work surface.
- Cut iron-on adhesive to fit fabric and follow directions to iron the adhesive to the back of the fabric (figure A). Let cool.
- Peel off adhesive cover, place album on the back of the fabric and fold it over onto the cover of the album. Iron fabric until it adheres to album. Fold corners as if wrapping a present and iron fabric on insides of cover as well (figure B) .
- If desired, use fusible adhesive to iron on another fabric, lace (figure C) or ribbons (figure D) as an accent.
- Cut decorative poster paper to fit inside covers of an album and glue inside covers, covering the folded-over fabric.
