Author and drawing expert Ed Emberley provides a look at some examples from his Picture Pie book, which features beginning drawing techniques. Emberley reviews some simple illustration principles, and explains how circles and other simple shapes can be combined to bring about a variety of pictures, including the tulip and bird described below.
Materials:
scissors
pencil
black marker
compass
glue
6 sheets of paper in the following colors: red, green, light blue, dark blue, yellow, black
Steps:
- To make circles, use a compass or draw around the lid of a jar. Make five 2" circles (1 green, 1 red, 1 light blue, 1 dark blue, 1 yellow).
- Fold and divide as shown in the illustration.
- Assemble and add legs and black dot for eye.
