Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-1759 -- More Projects » By Carol Duvall
The programs on which we show some of the latest craft books that have arrived in the office are great fun because I get to look at so many terrific books along the way. Unfortunately, time constraints make it impossible to show them all, and it's the deciding that is not fun. Following are the ones that made the cut for todays show.
Three Dimensional Decoupage by Hilda Stokes is a terrific book. If you have always thought that three-dimensional decoupage was accomplished by cutting out three or four copies of an image and stacking them one on top of the other with sticky dots in between to get depth, think again. It is much more involved and much more intricate, and this book takes you through each and every step. The cutting and curling and reassembling really need to be learned, and the pictures in the book are printed so that you know exactly what to cut and where to place everything. With patience and practice, by the time you have worked your way through the book you should be able to do your own on your own. It's a fun and fascinating way to learn a new craft that can be used to make pictures worthy of framing, fascinating cards and unique scrapbook pages. It is published by the Guild of Master Craftsman Publishing.
Suzanne J.E. Tourtillot has assembled a book published by Lark titled Creating Fantastic Vases that at first I was not particularly interested in, but once I started perusing the pages I quite quickly changed my mind. There is good variety of vases included and a wide variety of design ideas because a number of different designers contributed to the book. There are vases you can make and vases you can enhance. There are a number of ideas that would help you take those inexpensive vases that frequently come from the florists that you really don't want but can't bring yourself to throw away. Now you will not only want to keep them but perhaps even decorate them so that whether or not they are holding flowers you just might have them decorate your house. Very interesting. Very different.
Sharilyn Miller has also put together a book using the work and ideas of a number of different designers, but in this case it's all about Rubber Stamped Jewelry. The book begins by showing you all the tools and materials you are going to need, followed by step-by-step directions for a number of different techniques. The rest of the book features the work of different designers making projects utilizing the techniques you learned in the earlier pages. Northlight is the publisher.
Mrs. Grossman is usually known as the Sticker Queen, but her most recent book is titled Designer Scrapbooks With Mrs. Grossman, and I found it fascinating. It struck me as being quite different from many of the scrapbooking books I have looked through before in that it is a very personalized book showing a number of the travels and stories of her family. Surprisingly I became intrigued with reading the journaling and looking at the photographs even though I dont know any of the people involved. There is a rather different look to many of her pages in that they are very clean and uncluttered looking and of course there are stickers. You scrapbookers of the world might be very interested in checking out the pages in this book. Sterling is the publisher.
