Alan Carr

Woodworker Alan Carr has a barn full of flesh-and-blood animals, but the ones he loves the best are his wooden rocking horses. He builds exquisite handcarved rocking horses on gliders instead of rockers.

Carr begins with pieces of mesquite wood, which is a scrappy tree native to Texas, then adds glass eyes and a mane made of real horse hair. He also saddles the horse with a custom-made concho saddle.

Carr's sleek horses are more than children's toys--they become family heirlooms that are passed down to generations of riders.
