Figure A--You are looking at what may be the modern trend in lampshades. This shade is stylish silk with a beaded embellishment. In fact, the silk isn't supposed to shade anything--it is supposed to block the light and channel it to the beads. The result is mood lighting. Marion Edwards has been helping lampshades evolve for 15 years. She and her partner, Dee Van Ford, have grown from lampshade designers to interior planners, in a sense. Their passion for lampshades have taken them all over the world looking for ideas.

Figure B--Lampshades are not so much repaired as reborn from their business site in Nashville, Tennessee. Traditional shades are welcomed here because most of their work is on discarded or damaged pieces. Their reputation is made on the unusual, but their bread and butter is made on traditional shades, like this Victorian-style lampshade.
