Figure A--These garden gazing balls are unlike any gazing balls you've ever seen. They started their lives as bowling balls and are the works of Michigan mosaic artist Maxine Gardner. Once the gazing ball is complete, the weight of it provides a practicality that other gazing balls don't have. When buyers find out that it was formerly a bowling ball, it only increases the interest and tactile sense of the art piece.

Figure B--It was waiting for the various stages of the gazing balls to dry that got Gardner started on other projects. Any bird would be proud to bathe in one of her creations. Her watering cans are also extremely popular. Gardner is an artist still in the first flush of discovery. Enthusiasm guides her work and she is always amazed at the possibilities.
