The Carol Duvall Show cameras visit Alone Larsen, an artist who started carving gravestones in her home state of Indiana. As her interest and talent developed , she decided to attend school at Pilchuck in Washington to learn more about the art of etching glass. Today she has honed her craft into etching various types of glass , including one-of-a-kind lamps made from old lamp parts, ashtrays, and essentially anything that could eventually be made into a lamp.

She also etches various vessels such as vases, goblets and bowls. She shares the step-by-step process of etching goblets with a fairly intricate design. The glass object is covered with a thick vinyl covering (resist). Then the design is sketched on a transfer paper and applied to the vinyl-covered object. Once the pattern is visible on the vase, it's time to begin the etching process. The object is placed in a large sandblasting container (large black box with glass front). Larsen rotates the vase as the sand etches out the design. Once the design is complete, she polishes and cleans the vase.
