Modern Masters : Episode MAS-503 -- More Projects »
History and technique play important roles when Greg Guenther creates his fine furniture. When he was fresh out of college, he landed a job repairing antique furniture. He'd run to the library to read everything he could about the design of the piece before he would lay a hand on it.

Twenty-five years later, all of his research has paid off. He creates his own rendition of classic furniture styles--from neoclassical to Georgian-inspired pieces.

History Nuggets

  • Georgian furniture actually spans a period of more than 100 years (1714 to 1830), and there are several styles of furniture that fall under this British period.

    - The ornate Baroque style of continental Europe was the fashion for the first 50 years of this era.

    - Palladian and neoclassical styles, which developed in the mid-18th century, attempted to imitate the more simple lines of classic Roman and Greek design.

    - Regency is another mid 18th-century English furniture style.

  • Thomas Chippendale, George Hepplewhite and Thomas Sheraton all created furniture during this era.
