Viewer Ideas

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-528 -- More Projects »
This latest peek into the Shoebox uncovers tips and suggestions received in an assortment of letters from viewers.

Letter No. 1 came from Jane Robertson of Las Cruces, N.M., who suggested that instead of using dampened paper towels for cleaning rubber stamps, stampers should use paint edger replacement pads. Available in most hardware stores, these resemble the cleaning pads sold in rubber stamp stores, but cost noticeably less ($2.39 for two). The pads do an excellent job of cleaning the stamps and save a lot of paper towels in the process. Carol gave this particular product a rave review.

Viewer Bernadette Christensen of Fort Fairfield, Maine sent in a paper doll that she had drawn on a piece of cardboard. Onto the doll she had glued a photograph of her granddaughter's face. Since the completed doll was about eight inches tall, Bernadette had probably had the photograph enlarged. She also included a photograph of the paper doll dresses she had made. Very cute, and something any little girl should love.

Karen Guilmette from Orange, Massachusetts sent in a refrigerator magnet and a small wall hanging or ornament, both made of a mystery material--or so it seemed at first glance. A group of animals crowding onto Noah's Ark, and a little girl holding a needle and thread while seated on a spool of thread, were both made from hot glue! Karen wrote that she had seen the idea on a previous Carol Duvall Show segment but I thought that the detail and professionalism apparent in the items Karen had created were far beyond the original. Karen said she placed a piece of glass over a selected drawing (some from woodworking pattern books) then outlined and filled in different sections of the drawing with hot glue. When all were cooled and hardened, she stacked them (the hand on the arm, the arm on the body, etc.), painted them and glued them to a balsa wood background. Karen stated that she thought they were easy to make and had completed more than 40 glue-struck items.
