Project by Kim Treffinger of San Diego, Calif.
Kim loves glass. Her interest in glass began several years ago when she attended an art show and was "overcome by the light shining through the pieces." In this project she makes a beautiful fused glass pendant.
Materials:
fusible glass rated COE90 (coefficient of expansion):
striker pink for base
dichroic glass that turns green for middle
dichroic glass with cyan and green for top piece for cord
textured dichroic in clear with blue in it
kiln fiber paper
black cord
pistol-grip glass cutter
glass snips (pliers)
kiln
glass grinder
circular cutter
safety equipment: heavy rubber gloves, kiln gloves, goggles, respirator mask
Steps:
1. Cut bottom piece to desired size. Cut top accents.
2. Grind edges of all pieces if not too small. Clean all pieces.
3. Stack pieces with kiln fiber strip in place.
4. Layer kiln bottom with thin fire fiber paper to leave a smooth finish on the bottom of the pieces and protect the
bottom of the kiln so the glass doesn't melt through the brick.
5. Place stacked pieces in kiln. Set kiln program for firing; fire and allow to cool.
