Designer's Notes

Architectural elements from nineteenth-century France make up a bed fabricated by Bill Peck, Houston. A century older but still wearing its original paint is a "Tree of Life" from Italy. Also eighteenth-century Italian is the polenta armoire from the Piedmont region, south of Milan. The word polenta comes from the maize color of cornmeal mush, according to Bill Gardner (at W. Gardner, Ltd.), who has had several similar armoires. © Gibbs Smith, Allure of French & Italian Design, Betty Lou Phillips
