This space was empty, awkward and purposeless, but had a full wall of windows with a 17th-floor western view overlooking the park. The owner wanted something cozy that he could read a book in. Interior designer Jessie Miller dreamed up this oversized banquette that is cozier and comfier than a sofa — and includes a built-in bookcase!
High and Low Accessories
Custom bookcases that were designed and installed in tandem with the custom banquette are styled with a mix of vintage, industrial and affordable mass-produced accessories.
Luxury TV Room
A classic modern chaise gives a sleek and sophisticated lounge option to watching the television that rests on top of a toolbox media console. Industrial bookcases flank either side of the media console to tone down the enormity of the bachelor-sized TV.
The other side of the monstrous television is home to crazy-cool teak framed chairs, an arched floor lamp and another industrial bookcase. \"I love symmetry,\" Jessie says. \"These chairs are actually manufactured to be outdoor chairs, but I love them so much they are staying indoors.\"
Sleek 1960s Bedroom
Midcentury-inspired wallpaper makes for a trippy focal point behind a minimal bed frame.
Minimal and functional accessories add a whimsical start to the day when placed on a bedside table.
Retro-Chic Dining Space
\"The Sputnik is probably my all-time favorite chandelier,\" Jessie says. This reproduction in shiny chrome adds a midcentury spark over the reclaimed wood Parsons dining table. The reproduction Cesca dining chairs add a luxurious touch to this masculine space.
Time for Cocktails?
A vintage W.C. Fields poster overlooks a bar setup that offers libations in barware that was thrifted locally.
Jessie's Loft Living Room
Jessie DIYed many projects to make her loft cozy and inviting. Here, the TV fades into a black wall to let the original artwork stand out.
Refurbished Family Furniture
Jessie refinished an old family desk with silver spray paint to act as a console table to display her treasured Buddha statue. She updated the $40 statue with bright turquoise spray paint.
Budget Kitchen Makeover
Jessie painted the boring maple cabinets a high-gloss black and made a full-height mirrored backsplash out of chargers from the craft store.
A feminine bedroom is a relaxing retreat in a fairly monochromatic color palette. Luxe details with gilded and mirrored accessories give the space a little glitz.
Bright and Cheerful Dining Room
The homeowners requested a Jonathan Adler-inspired, family-friendly living room. The homeowner's existing kitchen chairs got a mini-makeover with affordable new fabric.
A dramatic headboard is balanced by oversized art.
Piles of Pillows
Piles of soft pillows add color and texture to make a bed feel more inviting.
Jessie framed various patterned papers and hung them in a collage to break up the large blue wall. A task lamp provides functional light to a dressing chair.
