Designer Wedding On A Budget

A high-end designer wedding is re-created for a young couple on a $10,000 budget.

  • Krister Bowman and Amanda Steen met five years ago, while vacationing in Costa Rica. Krister proposed on a recent trip to Jamaica, and she of course said yes.
  • The couple has to work on a budget of $10,000, but they want it to feel like more.
  • For the designer reception table, which costs $3,500, event designer Grant Rector and wedding coordinator Monica Pallie chose luxurious linens and expensive glassware to complete the look.
  • By using less expensive linens and china, they are able to completely recreate the look for a lot less money.
  • To create the designer bridal bouquet, Rector used Ecuadorian and garden roses, lily of the valley and miniature calla lilies.
  • Rector recreates the beauty of the high-end wedding bouquets using local flowers rather than imported blooms to keep our budget on track.
  • The designer attendant's bouquet is created with tinted miniature calla lillies, chocolate cymbidium orchids and fiddlehead ferns.
  • To cut back on the cost, they used garden roses, hypericum berries, dusty miller and seeded eucalyptus to make the bridesmaid's bouquet.
  • Custom-designed wedding cakes range from $8-$25 per serving.
  • For a unique twist on the wedding cake, McAloon suggested custom cupcakes, which only cost $3 per serving.
  • To display the cupcakes, McAloon built a garden-inspired tiered tower out of plastic cake tiers and candlesticks.
  • To transform the plain arbor into a soft, romance space, they draped billowing fabric around the posts.
  • For fun and movable seats, McAloon created simple cubes out of tables and linen fabric.
  • To give the ceremony area a truly personal look, they designed a custom monogram and hand painted it onto the basketball court, where their ceremony was held.
  • To guide guests to their seats, McAloon designed simple escort cards out of stones.
  • Food Network chef Guy Fieri created some simple, but elegant appetizers for the reception.
