African-Themed Wedding

Kenya Crumel and Byron Hurt are both fascinated by African history, so they decided to give their nuptials an African-themed flair.

The Favors

The kente cloth's triangular-shaped pattern symbolizes unity and strength. The favor bags had a bookmark, a candle and a broom. The broom was included because when slaves could not get married, instead of having a traditional wedding, they would jump over a broom to signify their marriage. The broom symbolizes the sweeping away of the old and the welcoming of the new.
