Turn Tin Cans Into Utensil Bins

Looking for a pretty place to stash small kitchen items or herbs? Create cute, custom utensil holders with a few recycled tins cans. Spray paint and craft tape will gussy them up, and S-hooks will keep them hanging in place on a towel bar.

Layla Palmer, The Lettered Cottage

Materials Needed:

  • tin cans of various shapes and sizes
  • metal-safe drill bit
  • electric drill
  • spray paint in the color(s) of your choice
  • variety of washi tape, stickers and tags
  • scissors
  • safety goggles
  • S-hooks

Drill Holes

Use a metal-safe drill bit to create a hole just below the rim on the back side of each tin can. Tip: Be sure to wear safety goggles when drilling into metal.

Spray Paint Cans

Turn cans upside down and coat each one with spray paint in the color(s) of your choice.

Embellish Cans

Now's the time to get creative! Embellish tin cans with washi tape, stickers or tags. Using temporary embellishments allows you to change up the look at a moment's notice.

Hang Cans

Hang each tin can from an S-hook onto a towel bar. Fill with utensils, herbs or kitchen tools.
