How to Make a Personalized Kid's Banner

Create a playful, painted canvas banner sure to inspire sweet dreams in a kid's bedroom.

Materials and Tools:

2' x 3' unstretched and primed canvas
7/8" diameter x 3' wooden dowel
two 1-1/4" wooden ball finials
craft or wood glue
assorted acrylic paint colors
paintbrushes
pie plate (to use as a palette)
glitter
ribbon
3/4" paper fasteners
"Sweet Dreams" printed design
transfer paper
scissors or craft knife
fusible web
iron
computer
printer
pencil

Steps:

1. Cut canvas to 2' x 3'. Finished banner can be rectangular or if desired, curve bottom sides and add a decorative point. Create a clean edge on sides and bottom of banner by turning 1/2-inch under and securing with fusible web.

2. Measure six inches down from the top of the canvas and make a mark. This area will be used to attach canvas to dowel, so make your design below this mark. Transfer "Sweet Dreams" design to canvas using transfer paper. Pencil in butterfly design, a decorative border and any other desired details.

3. Paint banner with acrylic paint and embellish with glitter.

4. Paint the wooden dowel and finials. Once dry, glue finials to each end of the dowel.

5. Fold the top portion of banner over wooden dowel and secure by punching evenly-spaced holes through both pieces of canvas with a nail then sliding paper fasteners through holes and opening up prongs on fasteners.

6. Cut a piece of ribbon long enough to create a hanger for banner and tie to each end of the dowel.
