Decorating with Words

Get a conversation started by enhancing your home with words on the walls and furniture.

Tired of plain painted walls? Personalize your home with words--Christy Crafton from Country Sampler Decorating Ideas magazine offers some clever country ideas.

Bend and shape wire to spell out a French saying; spray-paint black. Place on top of a table and cover with a piece of glass for a charming garden table.

Type your favorite saying on the computer, adjusting the spacing to fit the intended surface. Print out and tape in place. Use transfer paper and pencil to transfer the words onto the surface. Use a woodburning tool to duplicate the letters.

Write your words onto a wood shelf with an oil-based paint crayon; apply stain. The oil in the crayon will resist the stain, allowing the writing to show through.

A dramatic poem is perfect for an allover application. Apply a base coat and then paint on cream-colored panels to resemble old parchment. Use a projector and artist's markers to write the words on the wall.

Rub-on transfers are a time-saving way to enhance whatever you choose--give kitchen cabinets some personality by labeling their contents.
