Make Over Your Space With Carpet Tiles

Change the look of your floors with easy-to-install carpet tiles.

Materials and Tools:
carpet tiles
craft paper or newspaper
measuring tape
straight edge
utility knife
broom

Tips:

  • When buying carpet tiles, be sure to buy a few extra pieces. If one gets damaged or stained, you'll have a replacement on hand that matches perfectly.
  • Mix and match carpet tile patterns and colors to create a one-of-a-kind carpet or area rug. Before beginning, plan the pattern first on paper before cutting any tiles.

Steps:
1. Empty the room. Sweep and clean the floor.

2. Layout the pattern of your tiles. Find the center of the room and work out from there, this way if you have to make any cuts they will be against the wall.

3. For straight cuts, measure and mark the back of the tile, and then cut through the rubber backing with a utility knife and straight edge. If cutting an angle or notch, first create a template using newspaper or craft paper.

4. Make sure to cut the carpet tiles so they fit tightly when placed together, don't leave gaps or holes between the tiles. Thanks to the nonskid backing, most carpet tiles don't need to be attached to the floor. But, because brands vary, follow manufacturers' recommendations as to whether or not an adhesive should to be used.

5. Finally, use a broom to fluff up the carpet's nap to hide the any visible seams, these will disappear in time.
