Judges' Design Tips: Celebrity Homes

Renowned interior designers and HGTV hosts Genevieve Gorder, Candice Olson and Vern Yip offer their exclusive design tips from the Design Star set.

  • Tiffani Thiessen and her husband, Brady Smith, want to update their original 1923 guest room with an eclectic style and eco-friendly materials. Lonni uses a printed grasscloth to create a focal wall behind the new headboard, which is made from a reclaimed piece of wood.
  • The grasscloth continues around the room adding texture behind the bookcases. Lonni completes the look with dark wood floor and eclectic accessories.
  • Jason Priestley and his wife, Naomi, want to transform their guest room into a nursery for their second child. Dan creates a sophisticated nursery with a touch of a nautical theme and also shows off his artistic side with a boat-inspired ceiling display.
  • A light palette of blues and sands creates a calm, relaxing atmosphere. Dan also adds elements like a daybed and entertainment area so the room can grow with the baby.
  • Kathy Griffin wants a work area for Team Griffin, her three full-time employees, that also incorporates her love of modern, Zen style. Antonio uses a fresh shade of purple to lighten the space and add innovative touches like a huge map of the United States for Kathy to map out her tour dates.
  • Since the room is very narrow, Antonio creates custom-sized desks complete with their own storage and message boards.
