Judges' Tips: Kids' Room Makeovers

Renowned interior designers and HGTV hosts Genevieve Gorder, Candice Olson and Vern Yip offer their exclusive design tips from the Design Star set.

  • Lonni creates a sports-themed room for 17-year-old Nico by designing a dark blue focal wall of home plates. She makes the space functional with plenty of storage and also adds extra seating for hanging out with his friends.
  • Antonio designs a bedroom for five-year-old Connor, who loves dinosaurs and art. The headboard and footboard are designed to look like stones, and fun dinosaur cutouts are added to the walls.
  • Eleven-year-old Helena wants an eco-friendly bedroom, and Dan accomplishes the task with bamboo flooring and by repurposing her existing furniture. However, his color palette of pink and green receives a lot of criticism from the judges for being too bright.
  • Torie designs an artist loft for eight-year-old Carina, whose favorite colors are green, red and blue. Her big wow factor is a focal wall with her name illuminated over an assortment of fabrics.
  • Jason creates a girly, princess suite for 17-year-old Paulina by painting the walls pink and adding black and gray accessories for a sophisticated touch.
