Kid's Theater

A cluttered basement is given a colorful kid's makeover with zones for acting, art and storage.

Before: Basement Blues

Designer James Koster meets the Brandeis family: parents Kate and Charlie and the kids, nine-year-old Hank and six-year-old Emma. The kids tell James that their basement play space is so cluttered with old furniture that they have no place to play. Both kids wish for a stage in their new room. Here's how designer James Koster designs a colorful space with a stage, an art station and a media center.

Before the makeover, the basement was primarily an old furniture graveyard, where mismatched pieces took up most of the play space.
