The mint-green paint in the master bedroom doesn’t do this home’s unique Craftsman design justice.
A new color palette of yellow-green, deep brown, coral and yellow complements the unique architecture of the space. The ceiling is covered with wallpaper that contains colors from the palette, and its small, delicate pattern reads as a block of texture to the eye. The bottom half of the walls get alternating yellow and green stripes, while a floral theme is incorporated in the bedding and custom-designed artwork. Two matching nightstands flank the bed and feature decorative lamps in the new color palette. Painting tip: When using painter’s tape to paint stripes, make sure the tape is pressed firmly to the wall. Then paint horizontally across the edge of the tape to create a crisp line.
Green can be a particularly tricky color to get right. When the owners tried to make the master bedroom as cozy as the rest of their turn-of-the-century home, they ended up with a sickly green color and lots of floral, as seen in this sparsely decorated end of the bedroom.
Large light sconces frame a new console table and botanical-themed artwork, while neutral-colored plaid slipcovers repeat the color palette on the chairs. The bedroom closet is transformed into a small library for the couple’s books, filling out this end of the bedroom and completing the bright, sophisticated makeover.
