Dining Rooms Designed for Every Taste

If your dining room isn't a space where friends and family want to linger, try adding color.

  • If you crave color, take a cue from designer Shelly Riehl David. The yellows and greens in this dining room create an elegant backdrop, while a bold pattern of red and pink adds to the pop.
  • Turquoise, black and white is a no-fail color combination. Designer Judith Balis added warm wood furniture and created a sophisticated and welcoming space.
  • Most of the color in this modern space centers around the room's focal point: the table atop a dramatic red-and-white checked rug, sure to be a conversation starter. Designed by Yvonne Lane.
  • A gray wall coordinates with concrete floors in this contemporary dining room designed by Kenneth Brown. Off-white upholstery adds contrast and artwork awash in blues is an ideal wall accessory. Photo by Mayer Bowden Photography.
  • A bold wall color doesn't outshine designer Linda Woodrum's lovely choice of furnishings and accessories in the 2009 HGTV Dream Home dining room. The design elements come together like a well-orchestrated dinner party.
