Get a glimpse of what it's like to be at the White House during the holiday season.

  • Large Uncle Sam figurines welcomed visitors to the East Wing of the White House, where the theme for 2008 was "Red, White and Blue Christmas."
  • Fresh wreaths line the East Colonnade and hang from hand-carved eagles.
  • The wooden eagles atop each wreath in the East Colonnade were carved by Texas artists.
  • Former first lady Laura Bush and White House chief florist Nancy Clarke enter the East Room. Nancy was one of the first people to welcome the Bush twins, Jenna and Barbara, to the White House in 2001.
  • The ornate mantels in the East Room are decorated with red and blue garland, pine cones, and red and silver ornaments.
  • One of two trees in the East Room, this one is adorned with red and blue garland and silver stars. The room also features festive holiday topiaries set in handpainted drums.
  • The tree in the former first lady's office featured more red, white and blue decorations, including handmade cookies in the patriotic shapes of stars and flags.
  • The White House gingerbread decoration, located in the State Room, featured a drum and fife band as well as former first pets Barney, Miss Beazley and Kitty in a rooftop sleigh.
  • The Blue Room tree in 2008 was a Fraser fir. It traveled all the way from River Ridge Tree Farms in Crumpler, N.C. Handpainted ornaments and red, white and blue LED lights made it especially bright and festive.
  • Each ornament on the Blue Room tree was personally decorated by artists chosen by members of Congress in their specific state, district or territory.
  • Theodore Roosevelt is featured on this Blue Room tree ornament, handpainted by Thomas Deluca of New York's 2nd District.
  • Artist Glen Pagano represents the 1st district of New York with this painting of the Statue of Liberty.
  • This Blue Room tree ornament was painted by Vincent Peraino and represents the featured seafood from Maryland.
  • Representing Texas, artist Janet Eager Krueger handpainted this Blue Room tree ornament.
  • Artist Ard Hoyt handpainted Santa and his sleigh on an ornament to represent the 3rd District in Arkansas.
