Before: Dark Blue CaveAnuj and Kamala Uppal have a beautiful house but it seems to be full of bad luck. Having to deal with constant electrical, plumbing, flooding and even squirrel infestation issues is weighing down on the couple and cutting into the time they can spend with their children and as a couple. Host Stephanie McWilliams thinks their dark cavernous bedroom could be a cause of the problems and starts on a redesign to give them the luck they need.
After: Golden RetreatSince the bedroom is located in the fortune area of the house, McWilliams chooses uplifting colors, lush plants and rich bedding to secure a positive feeling. The walls are painted a golden tone to lighten the space and lift the ceiling, making the room a lot brighter. New gold and blue bedding plays off the warm walls, and an Indian-styled headboard in the shape of the horseshoe provides a lucky backing to the room. McWilliams creates a canopy of fabric at the end of the bed for a sensual, elegant effect, but also to protect them from the energy coming through the door.
Before: Cluttered BedroomThough they've lived in their home for four years, they've never felt comfortable because of all the problems. The master bedroom is a huge space, but the windows are very small so they don't get a lot of light. In addition, the low ceilings symbolically weighs down on the couple when they're trying to rest and relax.
After: Sophisticated AmbianceBrilliant lights are used to enhance the ceiling and move the eye upward, while ambient light boxes built onto the wall give a nice soothing feeling to the space. Bamboo blinds are set high above the window and go all the way to the floor to stretch the ceiling upward and create a more open space.
