Asian Character for a New Suburban Home

An anonymous suburban home gets an Asian-themed makeover to stand out among the other newly constructed homes in the neighborhood.

  • Leda Chong and Kevin Dewalt love their new home, but it blends in with the other newly constructed houses in their neighborhood. The couple wanted to update the home so it would stand out and also incorporate some of her Chinese heritage.
  • Designer Yvette Piaggio came up with a makeover that included an Asian garden, decorative driveway and earthy elements.
  • The plain concrete driveway was given an artistic makeover with color and a stamped pattern.
  • The front porch is made more welcoming by creating a patio and bringing the stone up the steps, onto the landing and covering the columns. The stones also work nicely with the Craftsman design theme.
  • Blue paint helps the house stand out in the neighborhood. A bright red Craftsman-style front door features leaded-glass sidelights.
  • The old walkway was torn out and replaced with a simple, low-maintenance garden.
