Before: Incomplete BackyardHomeowners Jhon and Betsey have made a good start in setting the foundation for their landscape project including a homemade circular patio and an outdoor steel painting. However they need a little help in finishing their yard. The rest of the yard is a mud pit, where they can't seem to grow anything. Llandscape architect Matt Olson steps in to enhance the space with a clean simple design plan.
After: Family-Friendly LandscapeLandscape designer Matt Olson's plan is a celebration of simple, modern design. They replace the steps with a multilevel flowing deck leading out the patio and create a kids' play area that includes a rock box and a convertible canvas playhouse.
Before: Muddy LawnThe couple recently moved from New York City to the Midwest, and they've never had a backyard of their own. They want to replace the temporary stairs off the back of the home, as well as create a play area for their kids.
After: Unique Deck PatioMexican blue pebbles help highlight Betsey's metal painting, which is also echoed in a steel fountain placed directly across from it. Boulders line the patio's edge and create additional seating, while colorful plantings and multi-colored mulch round out the yard.
