Modern Touches for a Classic Colonial

A classic red brick Colonial gets some modern touches including a copper-topped portico.

  • Craig and Mary Beth Albright's 1950s Colonial was desperately in need of some attention, particularly the crumbling front portico.
  • Designer Dan Banks modernized the home but still stayed in the Colonial character by adding a gorgeous copper-topped portico.
  • Historically accurate custom shutters were painted a light tone to give a pop of color against the brick facade.
  • A new stone walkway leads up to the front porch. A low-maintenance, low-cost landscape with plenty of perennials are added for year-round interest.
  • Stone bases anchor the new portico pillars and also provide definition to the entry of the house. © 2010 Scripps Networks, L.L.C. All rights reserved
