The Greenest Landscape Ever

Laura and Rutherford Seydel have built EcoManor, which demonstrates healthier and resource efficient living.

  • Homeowners Laura and Rutherford Seydel are in the midst of an ambitious home build. The home is being built to meet the standards of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), and they want the home's landscape to be just as eco-friendly.
  • For starters, all of the construction debris was ground up and incorporated into the soil, rather than being trucked to the landfill.
  • The landscape will also feature a greenroof: a terrace made up of living plant material that is actually the rooftop of the subterranean garage.
  • Built over the garage, the greenroof has a special membrane under the soil to collect water in small cups, where it can be accessed by the roots of the plants that make up the roof.
