Before: Outdated BackyardMaryann Miller and Greg Novak's yard is full of vintage objects such as a fireplace, brick kitchen area and original iron plates; however, it has no congruous style. Landscape designer Damon Valentino creates an architectural salvage backyard, reusing materials in a modern and unique fashion.
After: Vibrant Purple WallThe old concrete wall is painted a funky purple, and he builds seven benches that sit on top of the concrete planters. The old brick sink is transformed into a rock garden and bird sanctuary, and the antique birdcage suspended above it adds a playful touch. An old iron grate was transformed into a unique garden table perfect for cocktails or coffee.
Before: Bland and Boring SpaceThey'd like to do something different with the concrete retaining wall, as well as work with built-in fireplace and old outdoor kitchen area.
After: Fun, Eclectic LandscapeTo divide the garden, Valentino installs a wrought iron fence from a vintage stairway banister, which doubles as a rose trellis. A stone paver pathway leads into the garden, and the old fireplace is turned into a water feature. Colorful trees and plants make the garden really come alive and pop out against the purple wall.
