Before-and-After: Brick Row House Gets Color

A brick row house gets new color, landscaping, iron railins and a new flagstone patio and walkway.

  • Before, it was almost impossible to pick out homeowner Catherine Spencer's house among the line of almost identical brick row houses.
  • Designer Dan Banks brought in bright yellow color that adds a coastal flavor and really makes the house pop.
  • The yard was filled with hostas and colorful annuals to give the yard a tropical feel. An iron railing adds a decorative touch.
  • A new roof in a dark hue adds warmth, and a ceiling fan continues the coastal theme.
  • Warm-colored flagstone was used on the porch floor and continued out down the stairs and walkway. The stair riser gets a faux marble finish and stenciled house numbers.
  • Spencer created a unique water feature using everyday materials like water bottles. The resulting fountain adds a tranquil touch to the yard.
  • The flagstone walk goes all the way out to the street.
  • The porch gets resin wicker furniture that's easy to maintain. The brick columns were painted and a third center column was added and covered in wood. A unique table was made using stacked suitcases that had been decorated with decoupage.
