Before: Waiting to ExciteGetting color inspiration from the clothes in homeowners Mark and Brenda Balfrey's closet, host/designer David Bromstad concocts a stone gray room awash with splashes of blues and greens. In the Color Splash makeover team's most ambitious project yet, they build a dramatic arch and lighting on the feature wall and juxtapose elements to create a modernly urban living room.
The living room has an abundance of desirable features. Open space, lots of light (including skylights) and 14-foot vaulted ceilings provide a great opportunity for an amazing space.
After: Resuscitated with ColorAgainst the backdrop of gray tones, Bromstad features vibrant blues, greens and yellows. Three accent colors can work together as long as they all have the undertones of the same color in them.
Before: Divided SpacesThe space could be used better, both functionally and stylistically. And in keeping with the homeowners' wishes for a warm, comfortable and clean aesthetic, merging the spaces with a common style will give the large room a unified look.
After: Room for Work and PlayBromstad does this with colorful glass candle lanterns throughout the room. Three full-size couches fit in this huge room and create an intimate atmosphere. Arranging the seating area in the middle of the room works perfectly in such a large room.

Make a Workspace FunThe original desk unit lined the walls in this corner. If you have the space, use it. Don't be afraid to pull your furniture away from the walls in a room and add dimension or define the space differently.
A Study in ContrastThe color palette for this room is cool tones. So, Bromstad plays the warm tones in this painting off of the cool ones for a dramatic look. To bring in an urban element, a worn street sign motif adds a toned-down edginess to the soothing space.
