Hip Retro Lounge

Color is the root of great design. Host/designer David Bromstad converts a docile family room into a hip retro lounge that reflects the colorful personalities of the homeowners.

Create a Focus

The feature wall comes to life with some wood trim that was cut and hung to create rectangles. Since the wall color is dark, color assistant Danielle Hirsch chooses a light cream accent color. For a light color wall, just the opposite works: a dark color would make the trim stand out in the room. Dark wall colors work best when you have lots of light and tall ceilings. A few large architectural pieces and large-scale art draw the eye to the wall without overwhelming the space with too many decorative elements.
