Before: Uninspiring LandscapeKurtis and Jennifer Strauel live just outside Scottsdale, Ariz., with their two children, Taytem and Tommy. The warm desert climate brings tourists, retirees and more permanent residences like the Strauel family, who think it's a great place to raise a family. They've made their home in a new country club development, and as much as they love the desert view, they want a backyard that is as inviting as the inside of their home.
After: Perfect for EntertainingTo transform their backyard, the couple decides to use the expertise of Selina Largent and Jason Burns. They enlarge the patio, adding a few curves for a more natural look. A curving stone path connects the patio to the outdoor kitchen, which includes a built-in barbecue and bar. A water feature is combined with a fire bowl for a stunning focal point at the center of the yard.
Before: Empty BackyardThe homeowners want a beautiful, safe backyard for the whole family to enjoy. For them, having a yard full of weeds has been nothing but an eyesore that they've been dying to change. The concrete in the yard is far from attractive and unsafe for the children.
After: Outdoor KitchenThe kids have their own patio and play area with a raised planter for gardening and a sandy spot for digging. A lush green lawn offers additional play space and helps soften up the rest of the yard. The Strauels now have a fun and stylish yard the whole family can enjoy.
