Elegant Row House Update: Before-and-After Slide Show

Here's a slide show of before and after images from a row house renovation.

  • Kenny Williams and Patrick McKee’s historic row house was starting to show its age, with mismatched colors on the house and dull landscaping.
  • The original brick was hidden behind garish yellow siding, accented with flimsy too-small aluminum shutters.
  • Designer Daniela Franciscus updated this historic home with fresh, bold colors that accentuate the architectural details instead of highlighting the flaws. Cool colors, from the stone on the steps to the pop of terracotta on the front door, make this house the stand-out of the street.
  • The new paint colors on the house compliment the blue flagstone for the walkway.
  • The red porch was updated with a new roof, fresh paint and wooden accents for the railing. The door was painted terra cotta set off by new nickel-finish hardware.
  • Bamboo blinds, a black-iron lamp and a new bench complete the transformation on the porch. The planter is actually a painted paper bag.
  • Landscape Designer Ed Collier chose plants that pack a lot of punch for the small yard.
  • Stripping away the old siding revealed the original brick, which was painted a calming taupe color.
