Before: Simple for WinterThis bedroom is great, but makes you want to curl up with a good book. Wake it up for spring with a French-inspired tablecloth and a few other simple touches like new pillows, curtains and lighting.
Spring Tip #5: Go on vacation without leaving your house. Transform a dull bedroom into a romantic retreat infused with French style. The neutral color palette and the lack of accessories make for a nice starting point to transform this bedroom into a sophisticated and colorful spring retreat.
After: French and FabulousFrom a winter's nest to a Parisian parlor! Install three sets of drapery hardware from the ceiling and hang drapes to elongate the look of your headboard. Use tiebacks slipped over the headboard edge to hold the fabric out of the way of the nightstands.
Spring Tip #6: Add dramatic lighting. Design a bedroom where lights take center stage. Hang chandeliers with the hardwiring changed to plugs from hooks installed in the ceiling on either side for a touch of elegance.

1. Use a purchased pillow cover or make your own.
2. Cut out the desired shape of the backing for the monogram from the second fabric. Use a zigzag stitch around the edge to hold the shape in place in the center of the front piece.
3. To add the monogram, select the desired letter font and print out to the appropriate size for your pillow. Cut out letter and trace onto appliqué fabric. Cut letter out using scissors. For openings in letters, pinch the fabric in half to cut a slit for a starting point for cutting.
