Girlie Guest RoomBefore: Lost in the Camouflage
Homeowner Deb Schield is the sole lady in her house. She is completely outnumbered by husband Paul and their four boys. Even the dog is a male! She would love to have a place to escape all the masculine influence once in awhile. To that end, she wants to transform a spare bedroom into her own space and a part-time guest bedroom for her mother. Right now the room is filled with miscellaneous junk, most of which is covered in a camouflage pattern. Schield wants the room to have a Victorian-cottage feel that includes some of her antique furniture and vintage bed.
Rose WallsOnce the paint is dry, pieces of torn rose-patterned wallpaper are randomly adhered to the walls. A shabby chic chair rail is cleverly crafted from pieces of old picture frames nailed around the room. A small side chair (next to the door) is given a patchwork look when scraps of fabrics are tied to the rungs.
Wall treatment – $25 and chair rail – $50

Bed of RosesTo make the canopy, the glass is broken out of an old window and then the frame is then suspended from the ceiling. Bouquets of roses are wrapped in wire and fastened to the frame upside down so they will dry naturally. Below the canopy, the bed is dressed in an old-fashioned patchwork bedding.
Bedding – $30 and canopy – $60

Window and ChairsAn array of colorful, vintage hankies is hooked onto the curtain rings. The industrial look of the copper makes for an interesting contrast against the delicate fabrics.
Pretty fabric ribbon is weaved together to create a new seat on a small ladder-back chair. The chair is then hung on the wall for some frilly, 3-D wall art. An aqua-colored, vintage metal lawn chair is given a new cushion and then tucked into the corner.
Curtains – $90 and chairs – $28
