Seashore StyleAlthough she lives squarely within city limits, designer, wife and mother Kristen Hoogendorn's Boston home looks and feels like a cozy, shoreline cottage.
To achieve the soothing beach-house style, owner/designer Kristen Hoogendorn chose a warm and soothing color palette that mimics the color of the ocean. Then as a complement, the walls were done in a combination of off-white tile and cream-colored paint.
Teakwood CabinetryAnother New England beach-style addition to the bathroom is the teakwood vanity and storage closet. For the floors, the homeowner wanted to continue the soft, ocean-inspired color palette. But, with a house full of boys, she also needed a floor that was sturdy and easy to clean. Solution: marble mosaic flooring. It achieves an elegant beach look and is extremely durable.
The stainless-steel sinks combined with the teakwood vanity offer up a light, airy feel with a touch of modern aesthetics. The brushed stainless has a crisp, clean look, while the accents of coral, starfish and sea grass help accentuate the room's aquatic vibe.
Soaking TubThe voluminous, elevated tub is ideal for relaxing after a long, hard day. The soaking tub is so large and deep that the homeowner's young boys think of it as their swimming pool.
Open ShowerThe kids may love the tub, but the adults opt for the open shower. Sitting right next to tub, the tile and mosaic marble shower is outfitted with a slew of soothing jet sprays.
