Homeowner Devra Simon may call chilly New England home, but her tastes tend to run toward warmer climates. She wanted to re-create a sense of Hawaiian paradise and serenity in her master bathroom. Designer Christina Oliver was called in to offer up this stunning master bathroom design. The blend of wide-open spaces, warm South Pacific tones and autumn-color slate tile is the backbone of Oliver's design.
The autumn slate tile provides the comfortable warm look the homeowner wanted. Various sizes of tile are used throughout the space. The shower has two-inch tiles, the floors are six-inch, and the walls are covered in a 12-inch tile.
The golden travertine accents around the countertops and windowsills complement the autumn slate without coming across as too ostentatious.
Nothing in the bathroom says South Pacific style like the floor-to-ceiling windows in the shower. The homeowner wanted to create the feeling of an outdoor shower. When the weather is not too chilly, she can feel the full effect by opening the large shoji-style windows.
