Check out a a cool but cozy bathroom that is full of high style to go along with its high ceilings.
For many urban dwellers loft living is the only way to go. Exposed brick and high ceilings can make for chic big-city style, but they can also make a master bathroom feel a little less than cozy. Not the case in this bathroom.
Created by designer Ana Sternberg, this contemporary New York City loft has a cool but cozy bathroom that is full of high style to go along with its high ceilings.
The warm look of this room starts with the use of the dark-stained wood that accents the countertops and the floors. The wood is oak stained to look like wenge, a popular exotic wood. To keep the wood in tiptop shape, it is treated with marine varnish — the same stuff that is used on boats and decks.
The smooth onyx and mosaic tile used on the walls mixes perfectly with the wenge-stained oak. The rich wood plays beautifully off the yellowish-color of the onyx for a contemporary, but warm design.
In keeping with the contemporary feel, the designers minimized the number of materials used throughout the space. Instead of incorporating another material, they opted to use various shapes and sizes of tile. The floor is covered with large tiles. Mosaic half-inch by half-inch tile covers the walls, and some 4x4 tiles were used for accent in the shower.
