Sophisticated Wine RoomAndrea and Tim recently bought a beautiful modern home. They love the high ceilings and the spacious layout, but they think the family room lacks interest. The homeowners love to entertain, but need more room, so they've decided to change the layout of the house by moving their formal dining space into the living room. Since this is the first room guests see when they enter the home, Andrea and Tim want the space to reflect their personalities and their love of fine wine and entertaining.
The back wall was transformed into a functional focal point with custom-designed cabinetry and fireplace accents. The plantation shutters, rich colors and hardwood floors all add to the warm elegance of the room. The dark wall color helps keep the eye down and balance the height of the contemporary ceilings.
Wine StorageWine coolers are installed in the base of each cabinet. On top are shelves for barware and crisscross nooks to hold bottles, books or knickknacks.
Kenneth's Tip: Symmetry creates a more formal feel.
Fireplace WallThe new slate is adorned with two beautiful sconces to add a warm glow to the room.
Kenneth’s Tip: The middle of a sconce should be at eye level.
ChandelierTo elongate the room, Kenneth chooses a rectangular shade covered in a rich, wine-colored fabric.
Kenneth's Tip: Chandeliers should hang 36 to 42 inches above a dining table.
WindowsThe custom-made shutters fit in perfectly and allow the homeowners to control the light.
