Before: Overgrown ForestJim and Joanne Bennett would love to spend more time outdoors, either entertaining or playing ball but first they have some problems that need addressing. Their rotting deck is not safe and the sloping terrain includes a weed-infested, dry pond. They feel it's time to bring in some professionals to transform their neglected backyard into a spectacular outdoor living space.
After: Contemporary PatioAfter looking over the three design plans for the backyard, the family chose Todd Guilmette's design. He gets rid of the old deck and levels the lawn. Now the yard is a wide expanse of green lawn perfect for the whole family to play baseball. The stone patio blends seamlessly into a meandering path to the garage and a weeping Japanese maple adds color to the space.
Before: Sloped DisasterThe sloping terrain is bordered by a lot of trees, overgrown vines and bushes. In addition, drainage is a huge issue, so they'd like to level the yard.
After: On Higher GroundTwo retaining walls hold the new higher level of the yard as well as improve the appearance of the lower yard. Pavers set in a circle pattern are the perfect place for entertaining and create a focal point for the space. Behind the circular patio is a tree-form hydrangea and shrubs for screening and color.
