Before: Carpeted YardDianne Bennett is a professional matchmaker who knew she found her own perfect housing match the moment she spotted an enormous Spanish-style home. It sat empty for over 40 years and required intensive care. Several renovation projects later, the inside is gorgeous and now she's ready to turn her attention to the backyard. She would like to transform her wasteland into an attractive entertainment space.
After spending a lot of time renovating her Spanish-style home, Dianne Bennett is ready to begin work on her backyard. She longs for a lavish entertainment area where she can hold both intimate and elaborate parties, but right now the area is nothing but a huge wasteland.
After: Lush Green PlantingsAfter looking over the three design plans, Bennett decides Edouard Mimieux's European villa is perfect for her. With beautiful plantings and meandering pathways, the space radiates elegance. Canvas awnings shade the two patios and the garage is converted into a food preparation space for easy party planning. The driveway is scored for a classical European feel and bordered by a new lavish flowerbed. The back area by the new garage is full of a variety of flowers and trees including magnolias, bottlebrush and orange cape honeysuckle, which will eventually cover the wall.
Before: No PrivacyThe yard is a large rectangle with fences that run along each side. However, she wants more privacy from her neighbors as well as a water feature to mask the traffic noise.
After: Intimate SpaceA new garden path gently meanders around to the other side of yard, where she can already picture one of her future matches being married. Gracious arched trellises define each side of the yard while providing privacy from the neighbors. Underneath, a large flowerbed features a luxurious array of colorful plantings, and a new lawn finishes off the space. Bennett now has a versatile outdoor oasis that she can enjoy alone or with friends.
