Springtime in Paris

Host Joan Steffend and designer Cy Winship turn a minimalist loft into springtime in Paris.

The look can easily be altered by changing the color or pattern of the bottom layer. Modern vases are created with custom-cut acrylic shapes fit together around a glass cylinder.

To give the bedroom a distinctive French flair, Winship rasterizes (a process whereby a photo is enlarged, then broken down into tiny little dots) a poster of a famous French actress to hang over the bed.

To soften up the look of the minimalist bedroom, a headboard cozy is slipped right over the existing headboard. Black lace pillow shams go over bright-pink pillowcases for a peek-a-boo effect.

Table and Chairs
Winship got his inspiration for a semi-faux painted accent table from a Parisian hotel. The tabletop is a wooden half-round fastened to the wall, and the base of the table and two of the three vases are painted on the wall. Two side chairs have been upholstered with monogrammed terrycloth to provide a fun, personalized look.

Feather Light
Black feathers are glued to a hanging hat-shaped light.

Shell Art
For a bold, graphic statement, capiz shells are glued onto a piece of black masonite—reminiscent of springtime rain.
