Bed and BeddingThe $5,600 bed in the designer room is made from walnut with inlaid embossed metal and carved finials. For the Double Take version, a bed frame was found for $500. To mimic the inlaid detailing, some of the panels on the headboard and footboard are painted a flat, charcoal black. It takes a four-step process to get the finials to match the original designer bed. First, the finials are painted with gray primer. The second step is a coat of terra cotta for the base color. Then the finials are spray painted a walnut color to match the sheen and color of the bed frame. Finally, a very light mist of black spray paint is applied.
The custom-made silk bedding in the inspiration room cost more than $2,300. For the makeover room, a bed cover and sham set in a jacquard-print cotton blend was found for just $50. Silk-embroidered, down-filled throw pillows were purchased at a discount store for $22. They are a great match, and the price couldn't be beat.
