WallsThe textured walls in the inspiration room are done by hand-applying plaster in three colors and then adding a fleur de lis gold stencil around the room. The Double Take team also uses a blend of three colors to give the walls an aged, whitewashed effect. Custom-cut fleur de lis stencils were purchased at a craft store and then painted in a random pattern around the room. After the paint dries, the stencils are lightly sanded with fine-grit sandpaper to get that aged look. Finally, a watered-down mix of the same off-white and yellow paint that was used on the walls is lightly applied over the stencils to get the antiqued effect.
Tip: Stencils are a great way to add dimension to your walls. If you are choosing a random pattern, consider starting off with a few stencils spread out around the room–it is always easier to add more stencils than to take them away.
