Before: Overgrown YardAnn Kendall and Aaron Lauson want to add shade, color and texture to their small yard. Landscape designer Nick Maslowski presents a design plan that includes a new canopy for protection from the sun, mulch for the dogs and a composite deck to go over the cracked, worn down patio.
Ann and Aaron's backyard needs a total overhaul. Their two Jack Russell terriers have taken over the yard and are constantly digging holes in the grassy yard. Since they don't have a lot of time, they want an easy-to-maintain lawn and most importantly they don't want to mow.
After: Lots of MulchLandscape designer Nick Maslowski creates a self-sustaining yard with minimal watering and pruning. The path through the perennial garden is a great way for them to enjoy all the new flowers of their yard and gives the illusion of a larger space. The variety of plants add dimension and will eventually grow to hide the chain link fence.
Before: Tired PatioThe cracked patio and worn-out steps need to be updated. During the summer the yard gets a lot of sun, making it almost unbearable to spend time outside. The couple has no protection from the sun so a top priority is to create a space where they can rest on hot days.
After: Comfortable EntertainingPutting a deck over the worn-out patio transforms an eyesore into a relaxing and useable space. Over the deck, the canvas shade system gives them a hideaway on sunny summer afternoons. The crew made a few structural repairs to the steps and then covered them with a natural stone veneer, saving the couple a lot of money.
